Glavé & Holmes Architecture, an expanding and award-winning multi-disciplinary architecture, interior design and planning firm, seeks a dynamic, experienced leader for the position of Hospitality Studio Director.

The firm of 60+ architects, interior designers, historic preservationists, landscape architects, and supporting staff, maintains a diverse and integrated portfolio demonstrating expertise in numerous market areas, including Higher Education, Cultural, Civic, Hospitality, and Residential. Clients are provided with comprehensive services whether projects involve new buildings, additions to buildings, renovations, or adaptive reuse.

G&HA upholds an ongoing legacy of creating highly functional, context-specific designs that fit into the cultural and historical milieu of a given community. Extensive experience and talent conjures the historical and architectural values necessary to create a desirable and lasting impact.

G&HA is seeking a licensed architect with a professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution. All applicants must have a minimum of 15 years of experience in the profession and at least 5 years of experience in management of the hospitality market in an architectural or interior design firm. Licensed interior designers, with similar levels of experience, may also be given consideration for the position, provided they can demonstrate substantial experience with management and delivery of projects that include architectural services.

Architects must be licensed in the U.S. and must be very familiar with U.S. codes and standards.

General Responsibilities:

The Hospitality Studio Director shall be responsible for the overall operation of the firm’s Hospitality Studio. The Studio Director shall work collaboratively with the firm leadership and other Studio Directors to achieve goals for expanding the Hospitality Market and supporting the overall goals and philosophy of the firm. Experience with direct marketing and branding to potential clients, management of projects and project teams and coordination of multi-disciplinary professionals are core requirements of the position. Applicants shall have documented experience in management of staff. The Hospitality Studio engages in projects including architectural and interior design services, therefore knowledge and experience working with the Interior Design team is crucial. Experience with High-end Residential and Historic Properties is a plus.


Prime contact for firm to past, current and potential clients.

Employs the firm’s culture, marketing message, and methods

Leads business development efforts in coordination with the Director of Marketing including development and implementation of studio marketing plan

Manages proposal teams

Uses effective influence to win projects in competition.

Involvement in the community or with professional organizations.


Interacts effectively one on one and in teams.

Clear, concise and thorough written reports, specifications and documents for external and internal use (client correspondence and documentation, meeting minutes, project plans, proposal letters, presentations, interview materials, and meeting agendas). Directs others in these tasks.

Handles clear negotiations and complex negotiations with assistance. Resolves conflicts effectively.

Communicates well with staff to head off problems and keeps decisions flowing to facilitate work effort, providing constructive criticism and praise to staff. Motivates and works with staff members.

Communicates all firm information relating to studio staff as appropriate. Is communication liaison between the Leadership Team and the studio staff.


Collaborates, builds trust and teamwork in studio and with clients and consultants and among the Leadership Team.

Leads project teams as necessary.

Participates in HR issues as they are related to their studio staff.

Performs staff performance reviews. Participates in hiring and firing of staff as required to maintain studio health. Organizes training for studio staff.

Mentors staff in areas of growth and encourages staff in their growth. Leads by example.

Works collaboratively with other SD’s and all staff.

Works with the Leadership Team on overall firm issues and strategic plans.


Creates designs derived from client’s stated objectives and responds appropriately to the context, site and other project parameters. Establishes and carries design intent from concept through detailing and construction. Builds those skills in others.

Manages the design aspirations and approach to meet the established scope and within the set budget and schedule. Identifies areas where design decisions are needed, provides them and make sure they are implemented properly.

Manages the change process to maintain design intent.

Monitors the progress of several projects while not being intimately involved in them, giving the team insights as necessary for design continuity.

Reviews work of others to ensure design intent is carried through for a cohesive whole. Works within the philosophy of G&HA.


Effectively handles complex negotiations regarding work product – fees, schedule, disputes, contract matters and changes (additional services). Understands pricing for the market sector.

Understands financial reports used to monitor firm financial status. Oversees financial aspects of all studio projects at a high level.

Demonstrates bias for action and ability to resolve conflicts and road blocks.

Oversees Studio AR from clients with PM’s, CFO and Accounting team.

Knows/understands how to structure contracts within the industry and/or market sector. Signs contracts and construction documents where appropriate.

Establishes studio budget and attain financial goals including gross revenues, net revenues and profitability goals for the studio.


Has a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.

Is proficient in Microsoft Office programs and in manual drawing skills. Uses Outlook and MS Project for scheduling and planning. Familiarity with Newforma or Ajera are a plus.

Visualizes and directs complete set of documents for complex projects. Oversees review of documents/ work of others for adherence to quality standards and proper code are requirements of jurisdictions overseeing the project.

Studio and Project Management:

Manages all aspects of the studio – staffing, budgets, business development, client relationships, and communications while overseeing projects at a high level.

Monitors the progress of several projects while not being intimately involved in them, giving the team insights as necessary to manage better. Able to obtain and direct resources effectively.

Has a clear idea of how to achieve the goals of the studio.

Delegates work as appropriate to the project teams to manage client expectations.

Demonstrates sound judgement and documents decision reasoning well and thoroughly.

Can see and execute a plan for desired results in a timely and profitable manner.
